Phradhatu Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, Thailand

It is located in Thailand’s Chiang Mai province on Sivichai road, Suthep subdistrict. The Doi Suthep temple is open every day from 8 AM to 9 PM. Phradhatu Doi Suthep is one of the most important temples in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and many visitors come here to pray to the Buddha for good fortune and a safe trip to Chiang Mai. The architecture is stunning and elegant. It is situated 689 meters above Chiang Mai and 1,046 meters above sea level. It is far away from Chiang Mai province around 14 kilometers. Chiang Mai’s viewpoint is the pagoda courtyard. Furthermore, the route up Doi Suthep has a seven-headed Naga staircase made of cement which is very beautiful and many people will take a picture. The Doi Suthep below has many souvenir shops which allows you to purchase. The entrance fee is around 50 Baht for foreigners.

There are two mode of transportation that travellers may choose including:

1.      Driving your own car

When driving from Chiang Mai province, you can take the “Huay Kaew Road.” However, you must drive carefully because the road begins on a steep hill and slope for approximately 14 kilometers from the monument Kruba Srivichai. You will enter Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Worawihan after passing through Huay Kaew Waterfall.

2.      Taking public transportation

You can take the public transportation that is available in front of the Chiang Mai Open Zoo from Chiang Mai province and then you can take a bus to Doi Suthep. Transportation charges can sometimes be negotiated.

If you come to travel at Doi Suthep, you don’t need to worry about the accommodations since there are many hotels and resorts available near Doi Suthep Temple such as Yellow Pillow Village which the cost is reasonable, starting at only 600 Baht per night. It is a 3-star accommodation in Chiang Mai that has a swimming pool, good atmosphere, and minimal design. It is close to the route to Doi Suthep and Huay Kaew. So, if you are a backpacker, Yellow Pillow Village is highly recommended.

Moreover, there are many delicious restaurants close to Doi Suthep Temple that you should not miss, particularly Han Teung Jiang Mai. It is an authentic local Chiang Mai restaurant that you should not miss. Essentially each meal is special and offers reasonable prices. It is open from 9 AM to 8 PM.
